Kyles Graduation

This past weekend Kyle graduated with his MD and now I can officially call him a Doctor. I am so proud of him and his years of hard work. Our time in Philadelphia for the Ceremony was wonderful. We were able to spend some time with our close friends and see his wonderful parents. Thank you everyone for making this weekend so great!

Inspiration

I am getting so very excited for our new home. I have become a Pintrest addict and have practically designed every room of our house.  I am overflowing with ideas and can not wait to start some projects. Here is a little glimpse of what has been inspiring me.

Life Changes

We traveled to Omaha, Nebraska this past week for the first time together and it was a very successful trip. We found our future home, explored the city, and had dinner with fellow residents of UNMC (University Nebraska Medical Center).

My first thought when walking through the airport of only 10 gates was: “is that a man getting his cowboy boots polished? We’re definitely moving to a different type of city”. Yet after spending 5 days there, I have fallen in love with the City of Omaha! The people are genuinely nice, life is simpler and slower paced, and there is definitely a “Leave it to Beaver” feel – plus it still has all the things you would want/expect from a big city.

We are very excited for our move this summer and are really looking forward to living in Omaha (minus the possibly of tornadoes!). Thank you friends and family for praying with us throughout this transition. God brought us to an amazing home and we are excited to grow in love, friendship, and life during the next 5 years.

Home Buying

We’re in the process of buying a home and who knew it could be so stressful. I mean really how complicated can a mortgage get? You walk into a bank show them what a responsible person you are, give them your down payment and promise to pay your mortgage. Of course this would only be in an ideal world right?

Man-alive between learning what words like  PMI, amortization,  interest rates, Hybrid ARM’s, and fix rates mean, I feel like a walking dictionary. Oh then go ahead and add on student loans, the fact that your husbands does not actually start for another 2 months, and you live 15hrs away, only details right.

They should really have a manual for this type of transition.

Luckily, we have finally settled down and found the perfect lender/loan for us and let me tell you I am relieved! One more day and I might have said NOPE were renting for another 5 years.

Nonetheless I am so exited to get to Omaha and really begin house hunting. I do of course have 30+ homes already listed on realtor.com. Yet there must be something wonderfully different  when you walk through a home, thinking  you could potentially live there for the next 5+ years. SO EXCITING!!

Match Results!!

Ok so it has been a little while since I have been on. definitely getting behind on my goal of writing once a week. None the less so much has been happening for Kyle and I. We found out Friday March 16 that we matched at our FIRST CHOICE out of eleven different programs into Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery (also called ENT/Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery). This year was especially competitive for getting into ENT residency, with 390 applicants for only 285 positions in the entire country.

Come late May we will be moving to OMAHA, NEBRASKA
Kyle will be training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for the next five years. This program was our number one choice for many reasons. It has incredibly nice and friendly residents whom Kyle will train with. The faculty is made of a great mix of surgeons who are very passionate about teaching and mentoring residents. Finally, Omaha is a safe and affordable city of about 500,000 people that has the amenities of a big city along with friendly Midwestern people.

The next couple of months will be full of exciting events: buying a home, moving across the country (once again), Kyle starting his first year of residency, and I will be decorating our future home and job hunting. Thank you all for your support, love, and prayers throughout the past four years of medical school.

The Lord has blessed us and is opening up wonderful doors. We are excited to share this celebration with you!

Valentines

Valentines Day. A holiday that has become more nostalgic sort of day now that I am older. Reason being I remember as a child my parents poring their love on us as children. I remember candy grams for school friends, hand-made cards we did for each other at home and surprises at school.  I even remember those high school love grams I did as a cheerleader and high school romances, you know the ones where you thought I can not be more in love!  Now that I am older, well sort of, Valentines Day is still a great day! Although the excitement of this day has dwindled. I still love celebrating those I love and being celebrated by those who love me on this day.

Thank you husband for my wonderful flowers.

thankful.

Last night I was reading my book bittersweet and the author was talking about “when praying for someone to thanking God for every day of life, for every moment, for every heartbreak and for every moment of happiness that has brought them to be this person at this time.”  She declares “I believe in mining through the darkest seasons of our lives and choosing to believe that we’ll find something important every time.”

This year has most definitely been a season of darkness, heartache and growth for me and my family. Hearing these words were encouraging. It opened my eyes to what God maybe doing in my life and how he must be shaping who I am to be. I pray that I will stay reminded of this thought through every season whether it is full of sadness or joy.

superbowl party.

Over the last few months my husband decided to start watching football so when our friends decided to throw a party Kyle was more than excited. This was the first time he was anticipating the Super Bowl. Now we are not full-blown fans of a team, yet the excitement that surrounds this great American day was enough for the both of us to enjoy.

shoe obsession!!

Lately, I have had a little bit of a shoe obsession. I just love dressing up my feet. I am so excited to have a job. One so that I have a reason to dress up and two for the excuse to buy heals.

Friends.Family.Fun

We are not normally a couple that lives life spontaneously however enduring this last week I can say we definitely stepped outside of the box and planned a last-minute trip, one that took us to the other side of the US with our best friends Ryan and Bill.

Last Tuesday Kyle received a phone call from his best friend Bill. Now Bill works retail and although a manager he rarely receives holiday weekends off, during his call he informed Kyle of this great opportunity and the fact that he and his fiancé have the following weekend off. Kyle on the receiving end is in Medicine and what may be one of his last vacations thought the timing could not have been more perfect so we quickly came up with the idea of heading to Las Vegas for some fun.

Come Tuesday night our hotel and flights were booked and starting Saturday Morning we began our adventure in Vegas. We also extended out trip with a day in Cali to see some of our friends and family.

Everything about our trip was wonderful. Not sure what it is yet something about spending time with close friends, family and kids that love you that always refreshes you.

I use to watch these girls when I was in College, they were also flower girls in our wedding. Baby Jake was born a month after our big day and is growing up so quickly. I love stopping in for visits when were in town. These kids make us smile!
